Emotional Health

Matters

What they’re saying

SELF-CHECK: What is your relationship with food?
.
This morning a woman told me that she was riddled with guilt AND extreme comfort every time she ate a sandwich. She knew she wasn't supposed to have bread because carbs are "bad." But she can't stop. She doesn't want to stop.
.
She can remember her 1960's Mum giving her corn syrup to dip her crusts in, and since then, she's had a love/hate relationship with bread. Can't live with it can't live without it.
.
I've worked in weight loss for a long time, and I've seen all kinds of eating patterns.
.
There's A LOT of secret eating, regret, restriction, self-punishment, bingeing, hating food, and ultimately loving food.
.
Some of us have an excellent awareness of how food impacts our bodies. But most of us have no idea. Somedays we feel good, some days we feel like shit. Maybe it's what we ate, but we can't remember.
.
We seem to be cooking less and becoming more dependant on ordering food. Which is another love/hate thing. We love the taste and convenience but hate the expense and the inner knowing that it's not the healthiest for us.
.
All this to ask, what is your relationship with food?
.
.
Struggling with food? Book recommendation: Women, Food, and God by Geneen Roth. Or reach out to me. I've done a lot of work in this area.

SELF-CHECK: What are your early signs of emotional exhaustion?
.
Many of us are confused about the way we feel.
.
We feel anxious when nothing is wrong.
We're irritable with people trying to help us.
We shop/eat/gossip/drink/smoke/scroll to distract ourselves from feelings we don't know we have.
.
We're all over the place. And when we feel like shit, we just put on a mask and pretend to be more okay than we are.
.
Self-awareness is a big part of what we talk about in this group and #L60. We all have different energy and empathy levels, but one common theme is pushing ourselves to the emotional limits.
.
We ignore the check engine signs our body gives us until we are in the red zone.
.
To avoid burn out it's helpful to be aware of the early signs. Based on a poll last week, we seem pretty clear on our best forms of self-care. But I suspect that you wait too long to implement them.
.
What are your early signs of emotional exhaustion? Please share your signs, you might help someone else realize that they need to care for themselves in new ways.

Do you need to make a self-care plan?
.
Self-care has certainly become a major buzzword in the world of self-help and mental health, but what does the practice actually look like?
.
Of course, it's different for everyone.
.
We're all going to have different time and financial constraints, work and family obligations and other responsibilities that can interfere.
.
We have to be realistic, but also maybe a little creative and open to new possibilities.
.
The status quo isn't always healthy.
.
If you're someone who likes structure, creating a written self-care plan might be helpful to organize your thoughts and get things in motion.
.
Some of these questions may be a great way to get you started.
.
What else do you think needs to be considered? We'd love to hear your thoughts!
.
.
.
If you struggle to practice self-care or stick to your goals, our team at L60 would love to help. We're a team comprised of a life mentor, naturopathic doctor and therapist with the goal of helping women to take their emotional health into their hands. To support them to make the changes they want to make.

PRESS THE RESET BUTTON: Low on money, time, or energy? Mentor Leslee and Dr. Lydia talk about how to take care of yourself.
.
The term "self-care" has been watered down and commercialized to such a degree that its lost meaning. When you're maxed out and overwhelmed, it seems like another chore. Of course, you know you're supposed to be taking care of yourself. The question is "HOW?"
.
Got 15 minutes? No? Listen anyways. How you feel matters, and we care about you.
